5 Things To Consider When Buying An Off-Road Vehicle

The advancement of Technology has been a total blessing to the human race. Social Media to be exact has shaped opinions, built credible helpful online communities, and has kept us informed since the first platform was created. This has helped us socially and some have benefited financially as a new career path was created. Now some are making a living through content creation and we cannot deny the power these platforms have given to the masses.

On the downside, social media to be exact has also exposed us as humans most importantly it has exposed Africa and some of the ills bedevilling the continent. We have followed the Journeys of road-trips enthusiasts only to be disappointed by the level of roads we see on some the footage we see on their content. Bad inaccessible roads leading to major towns can be seen on people touring Africa using their vehicles. This has led me to believe one thing, even though we have made inroads on many aspects of infrastructure development, more resources need to be expended on building roads.

Since we know that such development takes time, it might not happen during our lifetime if I’m being honest, we are left with only one option. To find a vehicle that can weather such storms. This means an offroad vehicle should probably be the first car you think of if you’re going to be going up and down some or rather most African side roads. If you’re that person who knows you like to travel, either on business or for pleasure and you need an off-road Vehicle

Here are 5 Things to consider when buying that offroad vehicle.

1. Off-Road Capability and  Ground Clearance: its always good to assess the vehicle’s ground clearance, approach/departure angles, and 4WD/AWD capability to ensure it can handle different terrains because you will probably encounter some of the most unhospitable roads out there.

2. Durability and Build Quality: This should be high on your list because in the end, those side roads will definitely wear out your car. Look for robust construction and materials that can withstand rough conditions and impacts. Choosing an esthetically pleasing car should not tempt you because in this instance what matters is the durability.

3. Engine Power and Torque. While in another setting this would be just for fun, in this scenario, this separates fun and utility. You need a car with enough horsepower to go up and down stiff roads and its torque must be higher so that it has enough thrust in some cases to propel it to the next part of the road. A powerful engine with good torque delivery is essential for overcoming obstacles and driving through challenging terrain.

4. Suspension and Wheel Travel. Check the suspension system for articulation and travel, which impacts the vehicle’s ability to navigate uneven surfaces smoothly. While at it, stuff like aor suspension sounds cool and nice while the car is parked at the fancy showroom in the Capital City. But in the bush, when you’re stuck you will probably rue the day you bought a car with that. You need to do extensive research about air suspension if your car of choice has such mechanics.

5. Traction and Tyres. Consider the type of tyres the vehicle comes with and their suitability for off-road conditions, as well as the availability of options for different terrains. As a rule of thumb, always assume that slippery roads are ahead. That way you’re always prepared for the worst and you won’t take chances with your vehicle.

By evaluating these factors, you can choose an off-road vehicle that meets your needs and performs reliably in challenging environments.
