Toyota GD6 Vs Isuzu DMax: Pick Your Fighter

Off-road enthusiasts sometimes don’t have to go through this process because, in some or most cases, the price determines the car you will get. However our generation is no longer thrilled by aesthetics and price only, we would rather know the neaty gritties and the smallest pecks that make an off-road vehicle, an off-road vehicle, before committal.

In Zimbabwe, a Toyota GD6 is a popular vehicle, no questions asked. Even a primary school pupil can identify a GD6 (I’m not exaggerating). I would attribute it to the years of robust advertising done by Toyota over the years, to put their brand out there. However, it is also true that social media played a role in making the GD6 popular. Some crazy stories went viral in Zimbabwe and South Africa and in PR such publicity would have cost Toyota an arm and a leg.

Since Toyota already has a head start on this comparison, it being a popular choice etc, let’s look at some of the specs of the GD6 first. These include:

  • Engine Options: Typically offers diesel engines, such as a 2.4L or 2.8L turbocharged diesel engine.
  • Power Output: Varies depending on the engine choice, but generally ranges from around 150 to 204 horsepower (hp).
  • Torque: Torque output can range from approximately 343 to 500 Newton meters, depending on the engine. Torque output is the time the engine takes to respond when the driver presses the acceleration pedal. The higher the Newton Meters, the faster the engine responds.
  • Transmission: Options include manual and automatic transmissions, with 5-6 speed choices.
  • Fuel Efficiency: Typically known for good fuel economy, with varying figures depending on the engine and transmission configuration.
  • Dimensions: Dimensions can vary slightly between different configurations (single cab, double cab, etc.).

On another note, a DMax is equally a powerful car, depending on your preferences, you might like to view a D Max as more powerful than a GD6. Here are some of the specs for the DMax:

  • Engine Options: Offers diesel engines, commonly a 1.9L or 3.0L turbocharged diesel engine.
  • Power Output: Power ranges vary, generally between 150 to 190 horsepower (hp) depending on the engine choice.
  • Torque: Torque output varies, typically between 320 to 450 Nm (Newton-meters), depending on the engine.
  • Transmission: Options include manual and automatic transmissions, with 5-6 speed choices.
  • Fuel Efficiency: Known for good fuel efficiency in its class, though specific figures can vary.
  • Dimensions: Comes in different body styles (single cab, extended cab, double cab), so dimensions can vary significantly.

Here are the key differences between the DMax and The GD6:

  • Both vehicles are popular choices in the pickup truck segment, known for their durability and off-road capabilities.
  • They offer various trim levels and configurations to suit different needs, from commercial use to personal vehicles.
  • Interior features such as infotainment systems, safety features, and comfort options can vary depending on the trim level and market.

So now that you have a side-by-side comparison, tell us, what you prefer. I would probably pick a DMax, Isuzu had me at 1.9l engine capacity, to be honest.
