During my varsity days, Bulawayo used to have the best food and the best food outlets. Anyone that schooled in Bulawayo I’m sure has the Haefilis Pie and Milk Tart permanently imprinted in their mind. Even the Nandos Outlet in Bulawayo CBD looked like a fine dining outlet straight out of a magazine those days because it was just beautiful and the ambience was to die for.
Bulawayo still boasts of fine establishments that offer a wide range of different kinds of cuisines and as always, they are on point. Like true bloggers namhlanje siyapheka(today we are going to cook) and it’s not the cooking you are used to, we are going to plug you with the finest establishments that you should visit when you are in Bulawayo and probably write a review online. The following places deserve your presence bakhiti (dont know the English word for that) and they are in no particular order.
- The Cattleman Steakhouse – if reviews on Trip Advisor are anything to go by, this is the best place to enjoy your Steak in the region. Clients rave about the food and the environment in general, which should give you an idea about the type of place this is!! Don’t forget to review the place when you visit
- The Smokehouse Bulawayo – Lets say you want to eat great food prepared by the best chefs in the city, and you also like taking photos and documenting stories, what should you do. I guess you know where this story is going, you go to The Smokehouse in Bulawayo. Their food makes other steakhouses feel like amateurs. But say you don’t believe me, just go and eat and then take a picture at their I Heart Bulawayo sign.
- Fakaz Home and Hyper – I know you’re wondering why a Hyper Supermarket got onto this list but the truth is their restaurants deserve a seat on this mean (not that kind of mean) table. The truth is, their own rave about their restaurant “ Rendezvous Restaurant offering Five Star Meals” is actually very true. You just have to be inside the restaurant actually eating their food to understand the rave.
- The Boma Bulawayo – not to be confused by the one in Victoria Falls. This place is very much in Bulawayo inside the Hillside Dams infact. Of course they offer light meals and they have an international cuisine that one can even enjoy with a dam view!! Breakfast and Lunch are mainly served at this place and it has a vast playground where your little ones can play while you enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.
- Indaba Book Cafe – If i was allowed to have a favourite on this list, this would be it!! Why, because I have a sweet tooth, and I love coffee, and I love books. However, since I cant pick favourites let me just say, their menu consist of different kinds of cake like Queen Elizabeth Cake, and all the flavours you know, 5 different kinds of milkshakes, 3 different breakfast options, great coffee etc etc. Need I say more
- The Bulawayo Club – Luxury Accommodation, located in the heart of the city, ideal for exploring the city…. This is how Bulawayo Club, which houses the Bulawayo Club Restaurant describe itself. So I’m sure you already have a picture of the food that is served at a top luxurious place in the heart of a beautiful city. Hint, standards have to match everywhere. Need i say more?
- The Highlanders Clubhouse – Now if you cant go to the Clubhouse for food, maybe you should go just to take notes on how a football team should run its Clubhouse and learn more about faithful football fans and their zeal to keep their passion alive for generations while at it. The clubhouse is a popular food sport and you are likely to run into great happy people there especially after a match has been won.
At the end, Bulawayo is a city full of adventure and culture, you can simply visit and pick one popular place to eat at. Its good to then rate it on online review platforms so that we collectively shine the light on that city.
