Connecting With Communities: Volunteer Opportunities In Bulawayo

Volunteering is not something common in Zimbabwe, but it’s not unheard of. Why, you may be wondering, because the culture to volunteer to causes that are not religious or at the bidding of our local church leaders is not a common practice. Young girls are supposed to work at their houses doing various house chores and make efficient use of their time in preparation for adulthood. While young boys who might have more time on their hands would rather spend time playing games and or watching TV. Why because the culture was not instilled in us at any point in our lives.

People will volunteer at church, at local schools and at funerals, and in some cases at political events. Other factors are at play when it comes to volunteering, the value people place on the cause at hand. People value religious gatherings and events, people volunteer at funerals because, everyone at some point with have a funeral at their house and they would want the community to come and assist the day tragedy visits. Some volunteer at school events and schools, because their children or relatives attend that particular school. The fact that people volunteer at political gatherings and setups is the reason i think, we don’t volunteer only because we want blessings as Africans but we volunteer because we assign certain value to certain things.

If we can volunteer to do tasks for a political party, this means we have so much willpower to see things transcend to the next level and this means with the right direction we can actually be great volunteers to different causes.
