Toyota Vs Honda: Which Car Must You Buy In Zimbabwe

There was a time when we were so dogmatic in approach when it came to buying cars. The old guard would advocate for Toyota vehicles only, simply because local mechanics were well vested in diagnosing Toyotas and parts were easily accessible and could be used interchangeably. Most Toyota Vehicles from Japan which at some point flooded the Zimbabwean market were very easy to run, maintain, diagnose and fix in case they developed a fault. This then made Toyota very popular in Zimbabwe. However, is Totoya the best make to buy, is the question left unanswered to this day.

Honda has been around since 1948, just 11 years after Totoya was founded. And unlike Toyota, Honda has fewer models than Totoya. Toyota boasts of an impressive 70 models globally against Honda’s 15 to 20 Models globally. While Toyota’s number of models is impressive some of the vehicles especially the ones that come out of Japan are not as impressive. While Honda has fewer Models, it has kept its designs and models interesting and modified them in an impressive manner. In my opinion, in this scenario, more is not entirely the best. Truth be told, Toyota does have a range of impressive models and had they taken the time to modify them since 1937, we don’t know the extent to which they would have grown their brand by now.

That being said, Honda is making impressive cars these days, modifying its already existing models and making sure spare parts are easily accessible in all parts of the globe is making their cars a quick fan favourite. Not to mention the fact that the affordable newer models have impressive smooth drives, if one is faced with a dilemma to choose between a Honda and a Toyota made in the same year, in the same price range, it will probably be difficult to make a decision.

Here are a few pointers that can help you make that decision should you find yourself in the valley of such a decision:

1. Reliability and Durability:  Both Honda and Toyota are known for their reliability. Check consumer reviews and reliability ratings from online sources to see if one brand has consistently better ratings for the specific model you’re considering.

2. Fuel Efficiency: Compare the fuel efficiency (Kilometers per litre ) of the models you’re interested in. Even small differences can add up to significant savings over time.

3. Safety Features: Look into the standard and optional safety features offered by each model. Consider technologies like adaptive cruise control (Honda thrives on this front), lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, etc.

4. Interior Comfort and Features: Test drive both vehicles if you have access to assess comfort, cabin noise, seat comfort, and overall ergonomics. Compare features like infotainment systems, connectivity options, and interior space.

5. Resale Value: Historically, both Honda and Toyota vehicles tend to hold their value well. Check resale value estimates for the models you’re considering to understand long-term ownership costs.

6. Ownership Costs: Research maintenance costs, insurance premiums, and potential repair costs for each model. Some models may have lower maintenance costs or more affordable parts availability.

7. Warranty and After-Sales Service: Compare the warranty coverage offered by Honda and Toyota. Also, consider the availability and quality of after-sales service from local dealerships.

8. Reviews and Recommendations: Read expert reviews and seek recommendations from friends or family who own similar models. They can provide insights into real-world ownership experiences.

9. Personal Preferences: Ultimately, consider your personal preferences regarding design, brand reputation, and any specific features that are important to you.
